LAWANG SEWU: A TRACE TO THE DARK AGES OF
INDONESIA HISTORY AND THE OTHER WORLD
Hello bloggers! Back again with me discussing about the 5 recommended spots of tourism around Indonesia ! Well, for the second spot is located in one of cities in Central Java which is Semaranggg ! For general information, Semarang is located in the northern side of Magelang City in which it takes 3-4 hours drive from Jogja city. Semarang is known for its central business district because in there, we can found lot of factories from famous brands such as coca cola, Sari Roti, and etcetera. Apart it is known for its factories, Semarang is also best known for its Lumpia. Lumpia is basically a local food which its main ingredient is bamboos sprout.
Enough
talking about the food, because that makes me hungry.. hahha.. soo,
basically Semarang has variety of tourism spots, but the most visited
tourism spot is Lawang Sewu. What is actually Lawang Sewu? Well,
lawang sewu is one of the remaining heritage given by the Dutch
Colony in the colonialisation period. Generally the words of lawang
sewu is come from the Javanese language as Semarang is located in
central java. Lawang means doors, and Sewu means a
thousand. The reason why this
place is called that way, because the building itself has almost a
thousand doors. Looking backwards to the past history, this building
was made by dutch colony as stated before, and it was actually build
for the headquarters of Dutch train companies. As dutch occupied this
country, they build several railways and trains for transferring
local natural resources that has been hijacked
by the Dutch. Furthermore, as the Dutch had moved from Indonesia, the
building itself was empty. But as we mirroring to the past, our
country was being colonialized for the second time by the Japanese.
As they enter to our country, the dark ages in Indonesia begun.
Especially in Semarang. So as the japanese start to invade Semarang,
they reused Lawang Sewu building as a prison for locals. Even
tough it was used for prison, it was just not a regular prison that
we might be familiar with, but this prison was known for its sadistic
action done by japanese and the location for its prison was
underground prison. Because of that, there were plenty of locals died
in there. Thus, this place is considered to be a place for haunted
tourism. Below is the pictures of its underground prison.

Since
this place is popular among the locals, this haunted place was once
become the shooting location for a local's ghost hunter TV program
called as “Dunia Lain”. And shockingly, this episode was become
one of the most haunted amongst all episodes that the TV Shows
produced. Curious much about the episode? Here's a little sneak
peek of it!
